BOGUS PARTS AIRBORNE, FAA TESTIFIES.(MAIN)

WASHINGTON Bogus aircraft parts, like improperly reconditioned castoffs, are commonly used on commercial airliners because of greedy suppliers and poor government oversight, officials of the Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI told a Senate panel Wednesday.

Some so-called bogus parts are outright counterfeits made of inferior materials, while others are fraudulently labeled, have not been properly inspected or were once rejected as defective, the officials said at a hearing of the subcommittee on oversight of government management.
