NT: Marree Man suspect dies
The secret of who created the Marree Man -- the giant image of an Aborigine that wasvisible from space -- may have gone to the grave.
BARDIUS GOLDBERG, who died suddenly of a heart attack last month aged 61, would neverconfirm or deny among close mates whether he'd etched the four-kilometre-tall naked man.
The image, ploughed 30 centimetres deep in the red desert earth near Marree in SouthAustralia, was first noticed by a local pilot in July 1998.
Long-time friend REG HARRIS, an Alice Springs businessman, is one of Mr GOLDBERG'Smany associates who are confident he was the culprit.
The story goes that Mr GOLDBERG was offered $10,000 by a Adelaide Hills businessmanon strictly confidential terms.
Friends believe the money was to create the Marree Man.
A sceptic had been impressed by Mr GOLDBERG'S knowledge of satellite global positioningand he could operate earth moving equipment -- two prerequisites thought necessary tocreate the Marree Man.
Mr GOLDBERG already had a reputation for the creating the world's largest dot paintingthat covered more than a hectare in the Achilda Valley west of Alice Springs.
