Department imposed equity candidate, says school in court.(News)

THE governing body of a Kraaifontein primary school has taken the Western Cape Education Department to court for interfering with its appointment of a vice-principal to boost the department's employment equity figures.

The case was heard in the Cape High Court by Acting Judge President Jeanette Traverso and Judge Bennie Griesel.

Eikendal Primary School's governing body in 2008 interviewed applicants for the position and, in line with the department's policy, presented a shortlist of three candidates.
