VIC: Police appeal for witnesses to psychoanalyst s murder

MELBOURNE, April 20 AAP - Victorian homicide squad detectives today appealed for witnesses
to the murder of a 28-year-old psychoanalyst who was repeatedly stabbed at her home in
Melbourne's north yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Fiona Kaegi said Nicole Amanda Patterson, a counsellor and
psychoanalyst, saw a limited number of patients at her Northcote home, where she was found
dead by a visiting friend last night.

"Inquiries by homicide squad detectives reveal a number of people heard shouting or the
sounds of an argument coming from the vicinity of the house about mid-morning (yesterday),"
she said.

Ms Kaegi said there was no sign of forced entry at the house, but someone had apparently
searched several rooms although nothing was believed stolen.

She said relatives of Ms Patterson last spoke to her on the telephone about 8.30pm
(AEST) on Sunday night, and attempts to call her yesterday were unsuccessful.

Ms Kaegi said a post-mortem had revealed Ms Patterson died of multiple stab wounds.
